Howdy folks! This post comes to you via a four and a half minute video — my son encouraged me to make a social media video and, well, this is it (he also polled his friends on the name they were most likely to click on and “Angry Gay Grandpa” won the vote).
It’s the story of three Trans teens in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who tragically killed themselves last year: Brayden Snyder (17), Thea Cassidy (18) and River Olmsted (17) — these stories really hit hard at my heart and this one hits especially hard in that it is being ignored.
Sister Dottie Almoney at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lancaster gave River Olmsted’s eulogy and she said River’s suicide was due to “mental illness.” Was it? Or was her claim of mental illness intended to divert our attention away from the lack of support Trans teens are receiving — especially in religious environments?
I’ve reached out to some folks in Lancaster and have begun the process of creating a web series.
In the meantime, please check out the video and let me know your thoughts — truly I want to hear what you have to say.
Hope all is well in your world — hope to hear from you!
